As Korean, most people might recall 2002 in South Korea and Japan and Red Devils as they think of World Cup. Everyone became one even with foreigners in red clothing, cheering‘Dae-Han Minkuk! Clap clap clap clap clap!’ loudly, hugging and jumping everytime goal scored. Media all over the world had reported about the scene ever seen before; enormous crowd cheering on the street of Gwanghawmun, City Hall Sauare and so on. It was the time we enjoyed beyond the sport game.
Because of competiveness of sport, it sometimes makes violence like hooligans, but our world cup was different. We all share the joy of victory and the bitterness of defeat. It was a harmonious festival everyone felt the same way and became as one.
On a sunny day in 2014 April 6th, IPYG had friendly matches holding Victory Cup in Dongducheon. There played about 60 amateurs of Liberia, Ghana and Ethiopia from Seoul and Gyeonggi province, had league games of 20 minute each half promoting friendship with the members of IPYG.
Members of IPYG cheered during the games, performed Nanta at half time and flashmob casting messages about peace at the end of the event. Outcome of the matches didn’t matter to anyone.
Sport spirit, which makes a healthy mind through making a healthy body, may be the core elements that made Victory Cup a bridge to real communication, harmony, love for humanity and world peace.
The winner of Victory Cup on that day is everyone who gathered for Peace.
